DESCRIPTION: Foundation Engineering was selected by ODOT to provide emergency evaluation of a failing retaining wall along US Hwy 30 near Rainier, Oregon. Foundation Engineering evaluated the site and immediately installed an emergency warning system to automatically notify us and ODOT of wall movement. To protect public safety, Foundation Engineering worked with ODOT to provide a plan to close the road based on an evaluation of wall movement and potential failure.
SERVICE: Foundation Engineering completed a geotechnical investigation and developed repair and retaining wall replacement options. A tie-back retaining wall system was selected and Foundation Engineering worked directly with ODOT structural engineers to prepare wall design plans and specifications. All design work was completed in time for immediate construction, prior to the onset of winter season. Foundation Engineering also provided construction-phase work including submittal review, pre-construction meetings and wall construction observation and tie-back anchor testing.
