DESCRIPTION: Starting with an empty field along Highway 18, The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde have built the Northwest’s largest and most successful casino. This is Oregon’s top tourist attraction, drawing an estimated 3 million visitors per year. Over the years, several casino expansions have been made. The facility currently has 90,000 square feet of gaming floor, five restaurants, and an events center. A hotel was added to the casino in two phases beginning in 1998. Support of this attraction required constructing a new overpass on Hwy 18, a wastewater treatment facility, potable water storage tanks, a daycare center, a convenience store and fueling station, and numerous parking for light and heavy vehicles.
SERVICE: Foundation Engineering has provided geotechnical services for the casino, the additions, and support facilities since the project's inception in 1993. Our work has included geotechnical investigations and seismic hazard studies. Geotechnical design and consultation has included deep and shallow foundations, below and above ground tanks, shoring, shallow groundwater mitigation, and pavements. Foundation Engineering also provided construction observation services and project documentation for all project phases.
