DESCRIPTION: Construction for Linn-Benton Community College’s (LBCC) new Health Occupations Center is currently underway. The new, two-story, ±40,000 sf facility will be built adjacent to the Western University Health Science’s medical school in Lebanon and will bring LBCC’s healthcare programs into one learning center. Construction of the $16.05M facility is expected to be completed in early 2017.
SERVICE: Foundation Engineering's scope of work included exploratory test pits and drilling, laboratory testing, engineering analyses, and development of recommendations for site preparation and foundation design and construction, and pavements. The presence of a layer of very soft soil presented a geotechnical challenge due to the risk of excessive differential settlement. A series of borings were used to delineate the areal limits of the soft zone. During site grading, Foundation Engineering was present to observe the over-excavation of the troublesome soil and replacement with an engineered fill.
