After 5 years as a partner in a geotechnical consulting firm in Corvallis, Jim established Foundation Engineering in 1982. The firm continued to expand over the years and today serves the Northwest from two offices (Corvallis and Beaverton). Bill Nickels took over as owner and President in 2008. Jim remains as Principal Engineer and provides senior level consultation to the firm’s staff and clients.
During his 38-year career Jim has been involved in a wide spectrum of geotechnical projects including commercial and residential developments, hospitals, landslides, public facilities, office buildings, schools, communication towers, and industrial facilities. He also has extensive experience in transportation projects (airports, bridges, ports, and roads), as well as construction of new or expanded infrastructure (treatment plants pump stations, reservoirs, lagoons and transmission lines for water and waste water facilities). Over the years, Jim has provided geotechnical consultation and expert witness services on dozens of construction-related claims or legal issues.
