DESCRIPTION: Lane County School District 4J is replacing the existing Howard Elementary School on Howard Avenue in Eugene, Oregon. The new facility will include a new, two-story classroom building and separate gym/cafeteria structure with a total plan area of ±79,700 SF. The project also includes new play fields and a synthetic turf field, which have been completed south of Kelly Middle School. Site grading and foundation construction have been completed and building construction is currently underway. The new $32M school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.
SERVICE: Foundation Engineering, Inc. was retained by the school district to complete a geotechnical investigation and seismic site hazard study for the project. Our scope of work included field exploration, laboratory testing, engineering analysis, a site-specific seismic hazard study, and recommendations for site preparation, foundation design, and new pavements. Foundation Engineering also conducted a separate study to establish the infiltration characteristics of the soils for the design of a storm drainage disposal system. Our firm also provided CE services during site grading and foundation construction.
