Hayden Bridge Intake Structure | Springfield, Oregon

DESCRIPTION:  Eugene Water & Electric Board completed improvements to the Hayden Bridge Raw Water Intake Facility located on the McKenzie River just upstream of Hayden Bridge in Springfield, Oregon.  The improvements included a seismic upgrade of the existing facility and construction of two new tee-screens in the river beyond the inlets of the original intake structures.  A new compressor building and a 54‑inch diameter raw water supply line were also constructed.  The new water supply line extends across the intake property and crosses under Marcola Road near the entrance to the facility.  The new pipe connects to the existing pipe that feeds the Hayden Bridge Water Treatment Facility.  The construction work was completed in two phases with the most recent phase completed in 2014.

SERVICE:  Foundation Engineering completed the geotechnical investigation for the project.  The work included exploratory drilling, laboratory testing, analysis and development of geotechnical recommendations for the design and construction of the building foundations, intake structures and underground utilities.  The presence of variable fill and shallow hard bedrock was a key design consideration.  We also provided periodic on-site observations and consultation during construction.
