DESCRIPTION: Construction is underway on the ___ million Clackamas River Bridge on Springwater Road in Carver, Oregon. The ±460-foot long replacement bridge will be a three‑span concrete structure and will include construction of retaining walls ±20 feet high and built on existing embankment slopes. Challenges for this project included difficult drilling conditions (cobbles and boulders over soft rock) and constructability and access issues resulting from the proximity of residential structures to the replacement bridge.
SERVICE: Foundation Engineering has completed a geotechnical investigation including exploratory borings and laboratory testing including unconfined compressive strength tests for evaluation of rock strength for foundation support. Recommendations have been provided for design and construction of bridge foundations including drilled shafts, spread footings, and driven piles. Also completed is analysis and design of modular block and tie-back soldier pile retaining walls. In addition, analysis and evaluation of pre‑drilled and driven piles and spread footings foundations were completed for temporary work and detour structures.
